Update # 3

Okay folks...  Thanksgiving is over and soon it will be Christmas, then the New Year.

And that's what we need to talk about - The New Year, and more precisely, The Salado Eggfest.  It's only 104 days away.  Yes, we're almost down to two digits, and we all know how fast those go.

So while you're relaxing and enjoying new memories of having family and friends around with all that food, and of everyone smiling and enjoying the moment, why not say, "Hey, I've got an idea.  Let's all meet up again at the Salado Eggfest in March."

And everyone will say, "Great idea!  Let's do it..."

And you can remind everyone that they have just over 100 days to make the arrangements.

And you can give them the link to the Salado Eggfest site where all their questions are already answered.

And everyone will thank you for your clear-headed thinking.

And you will forever be known as the "Smart One" in the family.

See what good ideas combined with good planning can do...

You're welcome.

See y'all in Salado.

Salado Update # 6

As of this moment, we have 323 registered attendees, about 50 of whom are registered as Cooks.  Since many of these cooks have cooked at previous Salado Eggfests, we're in for a treat.

Also, it is important to note that only a limited number of plate setters will be available to use with the Demo Eggs during the Eggfest.  So if you need a plate setter, you might consider bringing your own or make arrangements to borrow one at the Eggfest.  Yes, the plate setters do come as part of the Demo Egg Accessory Kit and will be distributed when the new owner receives his Demo Egg at the end of the day.

Also, if you plan to register on-line using the handy cut & paste & email method instead of waiting until you arrive at the Eggfest, please do so no later than 5:00 PM, Wednesday, March 13th.  Judy and I will be preparing our own food, packing and loading all day Thursday so we can depart early on Friday.  Here's the link to the Registration form:

     http://saladoregistration.blogspot.com/

Also, if you had hopes of purchasing a Demo Egg but haven't made the arrangements yet, you may be too late.  Even so, it's worth a try.  Call Russ at Keith Ace Hardware.  Here's the link to the Demo Egg info:

     http://demoeggs.blogspot.com/

This will probably be the last update.  We're down to the wire and everyone is getting EGGcited to get it going.

Be sure to check in at the Check-In Desk when you arrive.  This is where you will receive your pre-printed name badges with your door prize ticket attached.  Just keep the ticket handy for the Door Prize drawings.  You could win some nice prizes including a Mini Big Green Egg.

There will be four Door Prize Drawings in all.  Three are for everyone and the fourth is for Cooks Only.  If we can stick to the schedule, they will be held on the hour starting at 1:00 PM, then 2:00 PM, then 3:00 PM and the Cooks Only Drawing at 4:00 PM.  You must be present to win.

Finally, the Village of Salado has been a wonderful host to our Gathering over the years.  And many of the shops have supported the Eggfest by donating prizes.  While you are there, visit some of the shops and restaurants.  You may find it a very interesting little place to visit.  We sure did.

And be sure to thank Mickey for putting together this fantastic opportunity for us Eggheads to have a really great time.

See you in Salado.

Salado Update # 5

With only 18 days to go we have 174 Registered attendees (20 are children) for Salado.  We know from Eggsperience that registrations begin to pick up quickly about two weeks before the fest.  Just don't forget...

This is good.  We could stop right now and have enough for a great time.  But we're not going to cut it off when there's a whole bunch of you out there who are coming but haven't submitted your registration information yet.  So, consider this another reminder to submit your registrations now rather than later.  Here's the Registrationn link again:

I should also remind you that the Demo Egg sales are picking up.  So if you want to take advantage of the discounted price, you need to move on it quickly.  Here's the Demo Egg link again:

The Meet & Greet is still set for Friday Night from about 5:30ish until we run out of steam.

The After Party is still set for Saturday Night from about 5:30ish until we run out of steam, lump, food, drink and energy.

Both parties will be at Inn on the Creek as in years past.

Of course, the Salado Eggfest itself will officially kick off about 9:00ish Saturday morning at the Pace Park Pavilion and run until about 4:00ish.

We plan to hold four door prize drawings on the hour starting at 1:00, then 2:00, then 3:00, and finally at 4:00.  Three of the drawings are for everyone who registered and has a door prize ticket.  The last drawing at 4:00 is for the Cook's only.  A Mini Egg will be the main prize in each drawing but there may be some additional items depending on the support we get from those who donate items.

And let us not forget that it is St. Patrick's Day weekend, so if you are Irish or feel the least bit need to be Irish for the day, wear your Irish Green.  And if you happen to be a wee bit Scottish or feel that you could be if you were given a choice at birth, you can and should wear a kilt.

There will be plenty to eat, thanks to the Cooks, plenty of fellow Eggheads to talk to, and plenty of good weather to enjoy the day.  So come early, stay long and enjoy the day.

See you in Salado.

Salado Update # 4 - Hotel Rates

If you're staying at either the Holiday Inn Express or Best Western, you should tell them you're part of the Big Green Egg crowd and ask for the group rate.  It should be as follows:

Best Western $89.99

Holiday Inn $109.99

If you are staying at The Inn on the Creek you will need to discuss the rate with Will.

All other B&B's and area hotels will be at their regular rate unless you can apply discounts or negotiate a lower rate.

Salado Update # 3 - Mini Egg Door prizes

It looks like we will have 4 Mini Eggs to give away as door prizes this year, along with a few other items.

As most of you know, Mini Eggs are wonderful little ceramic cookers with just enough size to make them fun and convenient to cook for two.  But some very creative cooks have taken them up a notch and produced some wonderful dishes that rival the larger Eggs in type and flavor of food.

If you want to see just how versatile this little marvel is, take a look at some of these videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIgTkeR184A

So if you want a chance to win, you  must register get a door prize ticket.

You can register in Salado on the day of the Fest, but it's much easier to register in advance.  Just go here and follow the easy on-line registration instructions:

Thanks.

See you in Salado.

Salado Update # 2 - Demo Eggs

Eggfests are a popular way for Eggheads to get together with other Eggheads to have some fun, but it's also a great way to purchase your first Big Green Egg, or perhaps a second or third Big Green Egg.

The way it's done is the Host Dealer (in this case, Keith's Ace Hardware in Salado) will offer a discount price to anyone who wishes to purchase one of the 'Demo Eggs' used at the Salado Eggfest.  The Egg is new and will be used only for the Eggfest.  You have to commit to the purchase ahead of time and pick up the Egg immediately after the Eggfest.

Demo Eggs are very popular and there are only a limited number available, so if you plan to purchase one you will need to contact Russ Allen at Keith Ace Hardware in Salado as soon as possible.  Here's his phone number and email address.

Phone: 254-947-4008       Fax: 254-947-4010

rallen@keithhardware.com

This year the 2013 discount price is as follows:

Large Egg w/ nest, lump, platesetter and firestarters
$745

Mini Egg w/ nest
$399

Russ went on to say, "I will discount any of the OTHER sizes that I have in stock at the time of the Fest 10%. I am not ordering extra inventory of the slower moving sizes so first come first served."

Salado Eggfest Update # 1

Okay folks, it's 2013 and we've pretty much gotten over the holidays.  So now we begin to prepare for the next fun event - the Salado Eggfest.

Already 75 people have registered, 26 of them registered as Cooks.  That alone is enough to have a good party, but you can bet there will be a lot more registering during the next few weeks.

Which reminds me, as of today, January 5th, there's only 69 days left. So be thinking seriously about scheduling it on your calendar, and registering early to avoid the stampede.

See you in Salado
